QMM2026 Nagasaki

jan.26-Feb.20, 2026

· TMGH

The QMM 2026 organized by the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Antwerp, has been completed. A total of 19 participants attended, coming from the following countries (in no particular order): Papua New Guinea, Egypt, Honduras, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Myanmar, Mozambique, India, Laos, Kenya, the Netherlands, Cuba, South Korea, Ethiopia, Zambia, Benin, and Canada.

After two weeks of theoretical learning and preparatory work for the field study, participants formed teams under three themes: “pluralistic health-seeking behavior,” “healthcare-seeking among foreign residents,” and “healthy ageing.” They took part in an intensive interview practicum and worked on synthesizing and presenting their findings. Data collection activities in Nagasaki were reviewed and approved by the TMGH Ethics Committee (NU_TMGH_2025_373_1).

In conducting the fieldwork, we relied greatly on the kindness and goodwill of many residents of Nagasaki Prefecture. In particular, we were able to carry out the program thanks to the exceptional support of Ms. Chiaki Sugiyama (Shitsu Norakusha), Mr. Tokuro Watanabe (NPO Ambanne), and The Light of Eternal Agape (TLEA) Nagasaki Jerusalem Church. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of them.
